Hey everybody! How’s your winter going? Well, here in Maine, we are at the end of what is looking to be a whopper of a Nor’easter! When the snow flies, I like to let my thoughts drift south, to where else — Walt Disney World.
Warm air, sweet pools, a delicious Dole Whip Float, all of these bring to mind the joys of Florida, and my favorite vacation destination. I’m headed to Florida in a month or so, spending some time with family, and then sneaking in one day at WDW. One day? You bet one day. What can you get done in one day?
Well the idea is to pack as much into that one day as possible. So here’s the plan.
My brother (bless his heart) will drive me from Vero Beach to my Disney hotel first thing in the morning. I need to be at my hotel by 730 , so I can check in and leave my bag, and catch the first bus to Epcot. I have yet to see the new Frozen Ride, and I want to get another look at the new Soarin’ as well. (It’s pretty fantastic) A quick run to Mission Space and then out of there to catch the monorail to Magic Kingdom.
Magic Kingdom by 10:30 am is the plan. Stop at the fire station to pick up my Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom cards. Hopefully get one of the two cards we need to complete our set. Off to Mickey’s Philharmagic. I still need to see Storytime with Belle so that’s on the list. I have a 12:30 Be Our Guest Reservation. In the time between those things, I have a new 8 year old client I’d like to get a couple cast members to say hi to.
A bus to Hollywood Studios after lunch, can’t go a day without a run through Toy Story Mania, Star Tours, and Tower of Terror. Jump the bus to Animal Kingdom, ride Dinosaur four or five times, and then the bus back to magic Kingdom.
Wishes ends on May 11, and I need to see it one last time. A dole whip float after Pot Roast mac n cheese for dinner, a spot on Main Street and let the lump in my throat swell as twenty years of memories of my daughter and me on Main Street wash over as the finale of that most grand spectacle explodes over the castle for the last time.
The new castle animation show will follow, and then I’ll catch the bus back to my hotel, catch 4 hours sleep and take the Magical Express back to the airport at 3 am.
Now that’s a day at Disney! If i can pull that off in one day (and I fully expect to) what do you suppose i can plan for you in four days, five days, a week?
So don’t let winter get you down. Think of the warm breezes blowing down Main Street, and let’s dream the vacation of a lifetime together.
